For centuries, female nomads have been engaging in the traditional art of crafting Persian Kilims both for their own use and for trading purposes. All materials used, be it wools or colors, derive from 100% natural sources. The compositions of the kelim patterns and their pace of work is completely up to the women themselves.
The kilim designs are inspired by nature, namely the vast surroundings in which the nomads are living and wandering about. Many of the kilims this shop offers are in use for tens of years and have evolved over time. You can be sure to purchase a unique piece that tells a story of its own! As one can imagine, the nomadic tribes have not applied for a patent to protect their crafts, which enables the mass production industries to produce kilim inspired goods for a fraction of the true costs, mainly in India.
Sadly, even child labor is one of the ways to manufacture those gabbeh & kilim imitations.
